Explore the Gauge Freedom Journal’s Preservation & Permanence Policy
In the digital age, permanence is a profound challenge. Scientific knowledge is fragile, often locked behind paywalls or hosted on servers that can disappear. As the tide of AI-generated information rises, establishing a stable, verifiable “ground truth” has become one of the most critical tasks for humanity.
Our approach is rooted in the same principles as our name. In physics, a gauge is a reliable, invariant reference point. Gauge Freedom Journal aim to act as this reference in this field—a stable hub guaranteeing that scientific knowledge, related to gauge and its applications, remains accessible, verifiable, and permanent, independent of any single institution. So, acting as a direct beacon in the new era of AI search. We are confident that a search for an author’s work published with us will lead directly to our platform, freeing us from dependence on fee-based discovery hubs and allowing us to prioritize permanent, no-cost access over paid traffic control.
A Multi-Layered Strategy for Permanence
We reject single points of failure. Instead, we weave a web of trust using a multi-layered strategy that combines the stability of trusted institutions with the resilience of decentralized networks.
Layer 1: The Stable, Centralized Hub
Articles receive DOIs minted by Gauge Freedom, Inc. (Crossref member application submitted). Each DOI resolves to a human-readable page on gaugefreedom.org with full metadata, license, and links to versions/artifacts. Corrections, retractions, and versioned updates are linked from the DOI record. Long-term preservation via third-party archives (e.g., CLOCKSS/Portico) as we onboard them; DOIs will keep resolving.
The name Gauge Freedom Journal is intentionally unique, acting as a direct beacon in the new era of AI search. We are confident that a search for an author’s work published with us will lead directly to our platform.
Layer 2: The Decentralized Web of Trust
To guard against censorship and institutional failure, we distribute every article to resilient, decentralized networks.
- IPFS & Filecoin: A content-addressed version of each paper is pinned to the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). This creates a unique, cryptographic fingerprint (a CID) that proves the content has not been altered. Long-term storage is ensured through Filecoin deals.
- Arweave: An immutable, permanent copy is stored on Arweave, ensuring the work is preserved forever on the permaweb.
This decentralized layer means that our publications are not just stored—they are mathematically verifiable and owned by the global commons.
Layer 3: The Public Commons
Finally, for maximum accessibility and transparency, we deposit all artifacts into public repositories. This includes our official collection on the Internet Archive and all source code in Software Heritage.
Building for the AI Era
We are actively building open-source tools, like the GFJ Vault and Intelexta, to automate this entire preservation pipeline.
Our goal is not just to publish research, but to contribute the auditable, verifiable infrastructure that the next generation of science will depend on.
